At Creative Writing Workshops, writers play "writing games" to get their creativity flowing and help inspire them to write freely. Our blog this weekend will be a Workshop!
CIRCLE GAME
1.) Choose the one word that most appeals to you: Alabama, Banister, Carousel, Diesel, Exorcist
2.) Choose another word that appeals to you: Extinction, Garage, Harried, Insensitive, Jambalaya
3.) Choose yet another word that you find appealing: Keepsake, Lamb, Code-Breaker, Nonsense, Constellation
Now, use these three words in a story written in third-person limited point-of-view.
Start with, "He felt just like a gerbil, running around and around on his wheel."
Remember, the two-full paragraph minimum rule still applies!
I can't wait to read where your minds take you!

He felt just like a gerbil, running around and around on his wheel. Mark was feeling very light-headed in the middle of his sixth period class on the last day of the school year. Mark was an expert constellation mapper and he loved star gazing. He was feeling the awful dizzy sensation because he thought of a peculiar, new constellation. It looked like a goat riding a carousel and was high up in the skies with the stars.
ReplyDeleteLater that day, he went out onto a hill and set up his equipment for a night of star gazing. He spent hours trying to find the illusive constellation and actually found what he was looking for. He saw the gigantic constellation Capricornus (Goat constellation) on a glimmering carousel made of stars. He instantly moved to his map and added the carousel to the Capricornus constellation. He named it the Carousel Goat Constellation and showed all of his friends the amazing discovery he had made.
He felt just like a gerbil, running around on his wheel. Jett was in his second day of training and he was already in the final task, running around a giant hamster wheel to test endurance. It seemed like a cruel joke to him because his instructors had forced him and his class to do it in the hottest day of the Alabama summer. Jett was the lead code-breaker in his class. He had been taken from his garage after hacking into the FBI’s mainframe for fun. Now he was being recruited by the organization to hack for it.
ReplyDeleteIt was the day of the selection ceremony, and it dragged on and on. Jett thought he would surely be the first to be called, but it went on and on without a mention of his name. Then, finally he was called, “Please, allow me introduce you to our lead code-breaker, Jett.” Jett ran up the steps to the stage to the roar of clapping from the audience. He was so excited to get the honor that he was speechless when it was his turn to speak. Jett was escorted to the H.Q. after the ceremony. There, he met the code-breaker team and they were whisked off to bed by the guards. He got into his bed and gazed at the ceiling for he was so excited to have friends like him at last that he couldn’t sleep.
He felt just like a gerbil, running around and around on his wheel. Biggdanger, the man in the wheel, yells over the obnoxious noise of the gigantic wheel turning, "Bobert-Man-Human-Thing, is it working?" "Just a moment longer," he replied. Then a second later, a large light turned on. They both stared in wonder at the amazing contraption. Then the garage door opened and a large man came in. He said in a booming voice, "I am paying you to do this okay. I expect that you make this work. I am being counted upon to supply power to all of ALABAMA in a week. And unless you can run on the wheel for the rest of your life, I suggest you get a permanent way to run the wheel." "Okay sir, we promise we will make the..." "SHUT UP!!!! Stop blabbering and WORK. IF YOU DON'T YOU AND YOUR FACE WILL BE ON THE LATEST ISSUE OF EXTINCTION Magazine!!!!!!"
ReplyDeleteBiggdanger and Bobert-Man-Human-Thing looked at each other and blurted out laughing. They both in unison said, "Look up at the CONSTELLATIONS. Today there will be the largest array of stars in the sky since the beginning of time. There will be plenty of energy in the sky if only you were smart." "Both of you are fired," he replied plainly. They both started crying. THE END

Each is so different! I love it!
ReplyDeleteHe felt like a gerbil, running around and around on his wheel. His name was Jack. Jack was a young boy around the age of 13. He lived in the hot, but lush, Australian outback. He was in trouble again and this time it wasn't with Uncle Richard, oh no... This time it was with the dingos. He kept trying to get farther and farther away from the dogs! Now they were lashing out at him with their large claws! He saw a flock of sheep. This was his opportunity. So he pushed himself even harder! He ran and ran and ran! Faster and faster and faster! Until he picked up a lamb and threw it at the dingos. They stopped and instead of following Jack, they went over to the lamb and feasted on its insides. Jack thought that for them it must have tasted as good as his Aunt Rowena's Jambalaya.
ReplyDeleteLater that day he went home to his aunt and uncle and they said that he needed to go get some new clothes before the school year started. So Aunt Rowena took him to the mall and went into Diesel the clothing store. He got new shorts. New shirts. New shoes. He even got a new book bag. He didn't like the book bag too much. He thought it was a bit strange. he thought it was more like something that a girl would wear. Once he got home he got changed into his new red and white baseball tee and his black shorts, he went outside to ride his bike. He rode all the way to the Sydney Oprah House and back. When he got back the sun was sinking into the land. And Jack felt the drowsiness sink into himself too. So he climbed up the tree and watched the sun disappear behind the hills, and he drifted off to sleep.
He felt just like a gerbil, running around and around on his wheel. "I mean honestly, Apolo," Isaac said, putting his full energy into running the wheel. "This can't be the BEST way to power the lab?" . Apolo took a long sip of his coffee, and replied, "Well, to be honest, it isn't an efficient way, but it's all we got. Isaac gritted his teeth as sweat poured down his forehead. The smell of diesel fuel made his eyes water. He was aching and didn't want to run. The heavy lab coat he was wearing didn't help. "Why am I running anyway!?" Apolo was about to reply when a forklift crashed through the back wall. "It's because..." Niket said, climbing out of the forklift. "YOU were the one who lost rock paper scissors!!" Isaac was growing red now. "We didn't play rock paper scissors!! You guys shoved me in here and made me start running!!"
ReplyDelete"It's not our fault." Apolo said taking another sip of coffee "Without power, the entire lab (which as I may remind you is fairly massive) will shut down. If the lab shuts down, we won't be able to prevent extinction, study constellations, find alternate power sources-" "And test out epic EXPLOSIONS!!!" Niket loudly chimed in. "And besides," Apolo said, putting on a white mining helmet that matched his lab coat. "Niket and I were going to go into the mines to see if we can find an alternate power source. So until then, stay hydrated!!" And they left Isaac running the wheel. "BOTLY!!" Isaac yelled. And a small wheeled robot came from around the corner. "Could you take over for me?" "Of course, sir." the robot replied, and they swapped places. Isaac replaced his sweaty lab coat with a fresh one, grabbed a mining helmet, and went down to the mines to join his friends.

He felt just like a gerbil, running around and around on his wheel. " Gahhh! why I'm I doing this again!" Luke whined tiredly. " For the hundredth time Luke, it's because YOU decided to train near the diesel engines and YOU hit one of them causing them all to explode!" Tear yelled annoyed as Anise walked into the garage. "Well I got good news and I've got bad news," Anise announced, " The good new is that the engine can be replaced, but the bad new is we can't fix them until we get the the next town, which means Luke have to run on the gerbil wheel." Anise explained.
ReplyDelete"Why is it only me whose running can't we have someone else run, I'm tired!" He yelled slowing down on the wheel, " HEY IT WAS YOUR IDEA TO TRAIN AND DESTROY OUR ENGINES SO YOU SHOULD BE ONE THE WHEEL SO KEEP MOVING!!!" Anise yelled angry. " Ok ,ok, I'll move!" Luke said and continued to run. Tear sighed at the scene and all of it's nonsense and decided to tell Jade. Slowly walking out the door she looked back at the scene and left praying nothing terrible happens with those two.

{WARNING || This will be a very long entry.}
ReplyDeleteHe felt just like a gerbil, running around and around on his wheel of life. It was as if he were trapped in an endless cycle and the only way to be free was to give up his balance and tumble from the wheel. Grant rested his arms on the rusty banister, careful not to put too much of his weight on the rail. A life on the run was anything but luxurious—him living in torn buildings and shacks proved that. He was feeling a bit harried, having his visage on the wide screens of New York and a reward for his dead body. Two months ago, the U.S. government gifted him with the name ‘Code-Breaker’ for hacking into the FBI and others as well as exposing classified information and planting destructive viruses into their systems.
DeleteThe man pushed his glasses up his nose with two, slim fingers and walked to the other side of the room where a sleeping bag and a briefcase was situated. In a brief two minutes, he had shoved the sleeping bag into the case and exited the building, a hood covering his visage. His onyx colored hair shifted in the wind, causing the hood to wrinkle and move. The green hues in Grant’s eyes surveyed the ground below; cars sped by buildings, brief, thin lights trailing behind them. The adolescent brushed his locks aside and neared the edge of the roof. He kneeled down, peering at the ant-like humans bustling in the crowded streets, unaware of the eyes that had settled upon him.

DeleteHe felt jes like a gerbil, runnin' 'round and 'round on his wheel. Andy rides 'long the Rockville hills on his mountain bike with his friend Dominic. The rich green slopin' hills reminds him so much of his ol' home back in Alabama. The "in the middle of nowhir" feelin' creeps over him agin. They ride down to the Lake an' prop their bikes aginst a tree on the edge of the water. Sittin' down on a rock, Dominic says, "Well, I shore wish we had some of muh maw's Jambalaya right now." Andy nods. "Shore thang. And it sure is bout the right time to eat somethin'." "Nah, we'll git home soon enough b'fore we wear out." They stand and git on their bikes to ride back home.
ReplyDeleteOn the way back, Andy and Dominic ride back to the top and see a herd of cattle. They brake their bikes as two big heads turn to greet them. "Hey ya'll!" says Andy, arms outstretched. Dominic chuckles, "For the third time t'day, and a thousandth from all these years." By now all the cows a' lookin' up a' them. "Well I gis we betta git goin' b'fore the sun sits," says Dominic, wawkin his bike through the cattle. Andy holds up b'hind. "Well I gis, um, right, git goin'." Dominic stops, "Anythin' 'rong?" "Nah, I'll meet you down," say Andy. "A'right." Dominic disappears over the edge. Andy turns to view the 'hole the res of Rockville. Every ride to here, all he wanted was a keepsake to treasure forever. Andy grabs his bike an' pas the cattle to catch up with Dominic at the bottom of the hill.

Love it, Sasha Twain!
DeleteHe felt just like a gerbil, running around and around on his wheel. Except riding a rainbow lamb on a carousel. He felt extremely board. He wanted to leave. He wanted to go to his garage and play Call of Duty. Once the ride was over he threw up on the person controlling the ride. On purpose, for making the ride last forever, and by accident, he got dizzy on the ride.
ReplyDeleteOnce he got back home he went to his garage. But when he entered he found...a mutant, rainbow pooping, bagel eating, lamb! It ate the bagels he was saving for later, and pooped it out as a rainbow. It could also talk. "My bagel!" he shouted. "Taste the flipping rainbow!" ordered the lamb. He closed the door leaving the lamb in the garage. All you need to know is he had a delicious lamb cobbler for dinner that night.
Flavian, this is exactly what Oscar wrote in the 6th period class blog... Please do your own work if you want credit.
DeleteHe felt just like a gerbil running around and around on his wheel, It was as if he were stuck on a never ending roller coaster. On the never ending feeling, he felt very out of wack. Soon he saw many other people feeling and doing as he was doing, he figured they had been brain warped. All he wanted to do was go to Alabama, and eat jambalaya. These feelings he felt were very confusing.
ReplyDeleteHe felt as if he were riding a lamb that was on a sugar high, running around a race track. It was nonsense. He finally got off of the feeling, when he had gotten home he had found the lamb he thought he had been riding on in that trapped feeling. He was so confused, it was as if you were trying to figure out how the constellations look like what they are named. He knew many crazy things had happened that day, but you should know that was not the last time that had happened.
We really do need to do more creative writing in the blog -- I have so much fun reading your work! :)
ReplyDeleteHe felt just like a gerbil, running around and around his wheel. Thoughts raced around in his mind like a carousel for hours to the point where the night never seemed to end. During the time of 12 A.M. through 4 A.M., he was either felt on top of the world or beneath it. It was this night in particular that struck him hard. He didn't plan on getting so emotional tonight, but he went along with it even though the feeling stabbed his heart and left him in pain. These are the type of nights that put him in a melancholy mood.
ReplyDeleteMore time passed by and he still couldn't sleep. At this point, his mind is everywhere except dreaming on his pillow where it should be. Everybody including himself knew that he was a harried person. A harried person that was sleep-deprived but still had the tiniest amount of energy that was enough to drag himself out to public where everyone can see the dark bags underneath his eyes and his messy hair (and life).
Most nights,he found that driving through cities or watching the sky on a hill was comforting. Driving through a city brought back many memories for him. The city lights and busy streets reminded him of home. Not a place where he can rest his head on, but a place where he feels appreciated and loved. Other times,he would find himself beneath a blanket of constellations with a strong cup of coffee in his palm to keep him awake. The stars reminded him a lot of his thoughts. They were small but held a large amount of value and beauty. Not to mention that there were plenty of them, just like stars. There was one very important thing that stars reminded him. There is someone out there in the world that truly loves him. And that person is sharing the same stars as him.

He felt like a gerbil running around and around on his wheel. Will felt like he'd been in the car forever, and yet they still hadn't reached their destination. Him, his parents, and his sister had been on the road for a week now, traveling from California to Alabama. They could be at Alabama right now if Will's parents hadn't been making a million stops along the way. Okay, maybe they hadn't made a thousand stops, but they went somewhere different everyday, then stayed the night there, only to set out for another spot after breakfast the next morning.
ReplyDeleteThe worst part about the road trip is that they hadn't even gone anywhere that appealed to him. They were just making stops at places that they knew would inspire his older sister, Cara. She was applying for college, but she had been having trouble coming up with a topic for her essay. So Will's and Cara's parents had decided to take them on this road trip over winter break. This had idea had not exactly excited Will, and at this point, he was in a very bad mood. His father had told him that he was being insensitive. Going to college meant a great deal to Cara, and this seemed to be fairly necessary to help her get into the college of her choice. Will understood this and all, but he wished that his parents had at least looked for ome places that could both inspire Cara and entertain Will. Forlornly, Will stared out the window at the stars, vainly trying to get his mind of his troubles by searching for familiar constellations.
Oops! In the last sentence of the first paragraph I typed thousand instead of million!
DeleteHe felt just like a gerbil, running around and around on his wheel. Jack was sitting in his living room with his dad in Alabama. His dad was telling him about the dinosaur fossils he found with his group. Jack was bored and acted like he was interested. Occasionally he would glance over to his computer desiring to play. His dad told Jack many things about dinosaurs. He told Jack about their extinction and how it happened. He also told Jack what kinds of dinosaur fossils he found.
ReplyDeleteBut Jack was totally not interested. He was getting bored of his dad. All Jack wanted was to play with his friends. He didn't care about this nonsense, so he told his dad. "Dad, dinsaurs are cool and all but I really don't care about anything you are saying. I just want to play with my friends on the computer." Jack was relieved when his dad told him that he could play. Jack also felt bad that he had to tell his dad that. Jack saw it in his dad's eyes. Jack hugged his dad and told him he was sorry. His dad said, "It's ok, I just thought you liked the dinosaurs. You seemed really interested." "I just didn't want to hurt your feelings." Jack says. Jack turns and goes to his computer.
He felt like a gerbil running around and around on his wheel. Bobber was on a carousel that went super fast. He was at an abandoned carnival that a bunch of people rebuilt. They made the rides faster and more fun. The carnival was about to end so Bobber left. He opened his garage to find a small lamb sitting on his car. It was sleeping. Bobber slowly walked over to it and picked it up.
ReplyDeleteThe lamb suddenly woke up in Bobber's arms and kicked at him. Bobber dropped the lamb and it broke one of its hind legs. It cried out in pain and Bobber took it to the vet. The vet did magic and repaired the lamb's leg. Then Bobber and the lamb became best friends and he named him Lamby.
He felt just like a gerbil, running around and around on his wheel. His life felt exactly the same spinning like a carousel, always in the same direction. Nothing ever changed in his life, no one ever new came into his life, he was always bored. The human race was slowly decreasing, he just wanted to disappear so he could be away from all the pain and suffering of the world. Soon the humans would come to an extinction.
ReplyDeleteHe was stuck in one place. For some reason the disease wasn't effecting him. While his family and everyone was dying he was just left behind with no one to comfort him. There was no one for him to keepsake in his heart. No one was able to cure the disease. Adan awoke to a bang. He looked out the window and saw that his school bus was waiting outside and he was running late.
she felt just like a gerbil, running around and around on her wheel. It was the latest fitness trend.Chelsea followed all of the trends. There she was running in a big hamster wheel in the middle of the gym, listening to sweet home ALABAMA, which everyone was listening to, because apparently the 70's are back. Chelsea worked up an appetite running, so he pulled out his phone to find the latest trending food. she found what she needed and headed out the door of the gym and headed to the Louisiana diner across the street.
ReplyDelete"One order of JAMBALAYA please." she told the man at the counter. " Comin' right up" said the man at the counter, " wait are those bell bottoms you are wearing?".
"yeah everybody is wearing them, haven't you heard, the 70's are back." "sorry but I haven't seen anyone wearing those for 40 years." Chelsea pulled out her phone and showed him the picture of bell bottoms on instagram, proving that the 70's are back. She got her jambalaya and walked out. She went to Pete's coffee for an iced coffee, because Starbucks was so 2014. she came out with her coffee and headed home in her brand-new, electric car.
Once she got home, Chelsea had her dinner, then searched the web for the latest trends. She searched for hours, and only stopped when she was satisfied. She ran to the store to buy nutella, because she saw many posts about it. She also grabbed a hippie headband to go with her bell bottoms. She went back home to try out a new hobby. She laid down in bed and stared at the CONSTELLATIONS through the windows. This is boring, She thought to herself. "Tomorrow ill try to ride my new penny board.
He felt like a gerbil running around and around his wheel. David woke up sweating realizing that it was just a dream. It was getting really hard for him to sleep after watching The Exorcist. David's nightmares were getting worse and worse. He knew that the movie was fake but it was the thought of it that scared him.
ReplyDeleteDavid had dinner with his family. He ate delicious jambalaya and then decided to tell his parents about his nightmares. They told him that horror movies were all nonsense and that the purpose is to scare you. The things that happen in movies like The Exorcist won't happen to you. At first he was still scared but he was thought about what his parents said. Soon after he realized that his parents were right and was no longer scared.
He felt just like a gerbil, running around and around on his wheel, trying to get his work done. It was just a year ago that Jake had been thinking about the discovery that wouldn’t just revolutionize Alabama, but the entire world! Jake had always dreamed of the day he would show his amazing invention to the world. The day he he started his new school in Alabama, he brought the amazing idea of inventing a hoverboard to his new classmates. They all thought that it was nonsense, even the teachers, but that never stopped Jake from trying. He looked at the contraption and screwdriver in his hands, and thought about what would happen if his dream did come true. Everyone would applaud him, praise him, and he would be the most famous person on earth. He continued working, filled with pride and confidence on what he could accomplish.
ReplyDeleteFor years, and years he worked on his dream. Until finally, one day, he made the amazing invention. He called all of his old friends, and told them to call their friends, to come to the neighborhood park. Later that day, with everyone watching him, Jake showed everyone his amazing hoverboard. Everyone who ever doubted him apologized, and lots of people wanted him to sell it. Soon, Jake started a company that made these hoverboards. On the first day of work at the factory, Jake looked back to when he was a little boy, just coming up with his incredible dream. He was proud to not have given up his on a dream that seemed impossible.
He felt just like a gerbil, running around and around on his wheel. Adam felt like he has done nothing with his life. He had the same daily routine until one day his life changed. He woke up and read the morning paper, except on article was about the possession of an EXORCIST. Adam immediately turned os the T.V, his favorite show was on as well, the show about human EXTINCTION.
ReplyDeleteAdam rushed to the phone to warn friends and family, however none of them believed him. They all thought Adam was talking NONSENSE. Adam felt like the world was to become full of people that are possessed, as it turned out he was right. All though a small group of survivors did make it. Adam sat on his chair in his apartment mourning over the losses of his family and friends.
Adam woke up one day to see that world was back to normal. He was shocked and happy to see what he was seeing on this beautiful morning. He met up with family then friends to celebrate what has happened to them all. Adam then found out that a group of survivors were exorcists that helped some, then more people practiced and went around the world. BEEP BEEP BEEP, Adam awoke to find out it was actually Monday and he had to get ready for school.

ReplyDeleteHe felt just like a gerbil, running around and around on his wheel. Probably because he was currently running on a human sized hamster wheel. Alex couldn't complain though, this was his dream job. Just a few days earlier, he had been hired at BluePod Video Production (I don't know okay???). He was walking down the street one day when he saw the flyer on the window. He was originally an editor, but he found himself doing errands for almost all of his co-workers. One of which was babysitting a lamb. He has been running on the wheel for about 20 minutes straight. "You don't have to run anymore!" Called Ross. Ross was one of his only friends at the office and he was the one who volunteered to show him around. "You've generated more than enough power for my... uhhh... computer. You can go now." Ross said. "Ok thanks!" Alex replied. He knew Ross was hiding something and he'd been noticing many strange things around the office as well, but he'd explore later, he didn't want to give a bad impression on his co-workers.
~few hours later~
Alex was finally on his lunch break now. "Heyyy, Chris!!" Alex called to his supervisor. "I'm going on my lunch break now!" A few seconds passed before his answer. "Ok then, be back in 30 minutes though." Alex got up from his desk and saved his work. He was going to investigate the little mysteries occurring around the office. One room that really caught his attention was Kim's door. He could hear noises behind the door and mysterious chanting. He slowly opened the door and what he saw gave him a slight jump. There was Kim in the middle of the room, her body giving off a deep purple aura and her eyes white. She was in the middle of a red chalk circle, surrouned by some of their co-workers. They were all chanting the same thing, but Alex couldn't decipher it. The room was dark, only lit by floating candles and torches on the wall. "W-wh-what is this?" Alex said, maybe a bit too loudly. They all turned towards him with wide eyes and shocked looks on their faces. Alex stood frozen. "A-ar-are you... Is this... Is this an exorcism?!?" He managed to spit out. One of them held up their hand, a white light glowing from his fingertips. The light from their hand lit up the area, revealing their faces, one he could recognize very well. "Wait.. is that... Ross? What's happening here?" Alex very nearly shouted. "Can someone answer me?!" There was only silence. Finally, Ross spoke. "I'm sorry to do this, but I have to." The light from his hand shimmered brighter. "Obliviscor!!" He yelled. Alex felt a sharp pain in his head and he started feeling a little dizzy. He blacked out.
Alex woke up at his desk, wearing a blanket. His vision was slightly blurry and his head still ached. He waited a few minutes for his vision to clear. He saw that he was in the break room. He looked at his watch which read 5:30, but he swore that it was only 2:30 when he went on his lunch break. "Oh, you're awake." Someone said. Alex turned his head to see that it was Ross. "You fell asleep at your desk while you were working. You're welcome for the blanket by the way." Alex stood up and picked up his things and put them in his bag. "Well, thanks." They both stood there in an awkward silence. "Well, uh I should be going now.." Alex said. "Oh yeah, well, see ya tomorrow!" Ross walked away and Alex headed towards his car. As he was driving down the freeway, he couldn't stop wondering about what happened this afternoon. When he was pulling into the garage, Alex heard his phone vibrate. It was a text from Ross. It showed a picture of people preforming a ritual in Kim's room. "Such Photoshop :) " Alex replied.

ReplyDeleteHe felt just like a gerbil, running around and around on his wheel. He constantly gets into these bad situations, that happen to be his brother’s pranks, but he falls for them each time. It’s like a never ending carousel, that he is too scared to jump off of. He decided to try to find a way out of his garage, which he couldn’t get out that was most likely his brother’s prank. He then saw the exorcist that he saw on the movie The Exorcist. He freaked out, and then remembered the garage door. He quickly ran to it and tried to open it with the remote for it, but it wasn’t working. He reached for a crowbar and tried to pry it open. By this time, the creepy man had vanished. He was nowhere to be seen. He felt a hint of relief, but he was still scared. A tiny lamb suddenly comes in front of him, and now Lucas is just confused by all this nonsense.
ReplyDeleteHe finds a flash light, and looks for another exit, but is still very confused. He finds a window, but it is very high up. Luke grabs a step stool and puts it in front of the window. He grabs the crowbar he previously used and prys the window open. Hesitantly, he climbs out, only to find himself in a darker room. All of a sudden, he hears laughs and a bright light comes on. He realizes he is in his room with his brother, Matt, and Matts friends. They are all laughing, at him. Matt says, “You’re so gullible! You should have seen your face! It was price less!!” Luke feels all these feelings at once, anger, relief, sadness, happiness, but on is dominant, anger. Quickly, he hits Matt right in the check, then again in the stomach. He then walks away to his room, with relief.

ReplyDeleteHe felt like a gerbil, running around and around on his wheel. Jefferson eventually gave up running around the house looking for Vincent, his little five year old brother. He reached out and grabbed the BANISTER in front of him while he tried to regain his breath. Vincent has disappeared this morning and it worried the life out of Jefferson. When Jefferson was 10 and Vincent was only 1 their parents died and left them to live with their Aunt Stella. She was a terrible excuse for an aunt. That woman didn't even shed a tear when her younger sister died. Aunt Stella was one for money, greed, and self gain, not once has she cared for the two boys. The only reason why she took care of them was for the money she got to pay for their schooling and other necessities for their well being, but she spent that money on her expensive items and had Jefferson work to get money for school.
ReplyDeleteJefferson never really liked his Aunt and her selfish ways, but right now wasn't the time to think about how much he despised his aunt. Now was the time to find Vincent; his only real family left. It was already noon and he's been searching all morning. All Aunt Stella did was watch TV and stuff her face with chocolates, not like that even helped with the situation. Jefferson felt his chest tighten when he tough of the possibility that Vincent got hurt... or worse. No, he couldn't think negatively. It won't help him in any way, so why should he think about that? It'll only worsen the problem.
For the rest of the day Jefferson looked around the town for Vincent. The sun was already setting and the sky was already turning dark shades of blue and nearing black. He was ready to give up, he couldn't find Vincent. Maybe he could tomorrow? But what if Vincent starves by tomorrow? He can't give up. Vincent needs Jefferson and he can't give up on his search. Jefferson heads to Vincent and his's favorite park and he stands on top of the hill that over looks the whole park.
Empty. There was nothing. No one. He was sure this was the only place he hadn't checked and where Vincent should be. Jefferson collapsed on the grassy hill and buried his face in his hands. If only his INSENSITIVE aunt had actually had a heart and treated them better, Vincent wouldn't of gone missing. Looking up at the sun free sky, Jefferson noticed the stars starting to appear. Eventually, he saw the Big Dipper, Vincent's favorite CONSTELLATION. If only Vincent where here, it would of been more enjoyable to see the little boy look up in awe at the stars. The silence was unbearable. Whenever the two boys looked at the stars, Jefferson would hear nothing, but his brother's loud breathing next to him.
"Jefferson!" a voice called out in the distance. Jefferson's head snapped in the direction of the voice. The voice of Vincent and there stood the boy looking at Jefferson with pure joy. "He's okay, Vincent's okay" the thought kept running through Jefferson's mind as he hugged his brother. His only family.

DeleteHe felt just like a gerbil, running around and around on his wheel. He his always working out non-stop. He was Alex. Alex lived in Alabama where the sun shined all the time and it was always hot. He almost felt as if the people that ran in the heat in Alabama were going to go extinct from the excruciating hotness of the weather. "But dad, Jimmy doesn't have to run all the time like I have to!" Alex shouted extremely loud. "Well maybe your little friend Jimmy does not want that track scholarship that you want." So from there AAlex restarted his routine. He would run two miles to his friends house, pick up some snacks for when he got home, and run back.
ReplyDeleteWhile Alex was running elater on that day, he noticed all of the little boys and girls on the slip and slide. He thought to himself, "Am I sure I really want this track scholarship anymore? As a 17 year old, I think it i time for me to make my own decision on this." When Alex got home he told his dad what he had thought to himself on the way home. "Dad I was thinking, and maybe I don't want that scholarship anymore." "Alex! You've been working at this forever and-." His dad stopped right there. "Well I guess you are old enough to make that decision. But you are still going to college!"
Later on in both of there lives they reflected on this moment as a moment to laugh at, rather then a moment that broke them apart.
He felt just like a gerbil, running around and around on his wheel. Tao's hand held tight on the head of a plastic, decorated tiger which held a pose as if it wanted to skin a live whale. It felt like the carousel was spinning faster and faster without anyone triggering the effect. He was scared and almost wanted to burst into tears. It wasn't the carousel, it was the festival itself. The last thing Tao remembered was receiving a balloon from a big jolly clown inside a tent where food was being sold. After he got outside it was as if all of humanity was being extinct. Everyone was gone, even his mom. The ground was scarred, the ferris wheel created squeaky noises, the damcing music had a evil laugh behind it, the rides had a rusty look to it, and the voices of the happy people faded and echoed into Tao's mind. He had run back inside the tent where the clown was and no one was present inside. He had started crying his eyes out. What did he know, he was only 9. The post-apocolyptic festival was surrounding him as Tao felt himself lose his sanity. His memories of everything started fading in his head. He couldn't even remember what time it was. Tao found his way to the carousel when the balloon the clown had given him earlier flew to the untainted area of the carousel. He believed the carousel was some sort of magical island isolated from the rest of the world. It was still going round and round, never losing its charm, or the fresh scent of green grass the bordered the dead boundaries of the disintegrated festival outside.
ReplyDeleteAs Tao tried to calm down a small cat scurried inside the boundaries. It was to his surprise, the cat was half white and half black. Split symmetrically in half, the right side if the cat was pure white with green eyes, and the left was completely black with yellow eyes. The cat talked to Tao, in which he thought he was going insane. It was speaking in a dialect unknown to Tao. Tao couldn't understand, but he knew the half black half white cat spoke of something with boundaries. It was his instincts telling him it had to do with the carousel, and the post apocolyptic festival. This was like some code Tao had to break. Without thinking he bundled the cat in his arms and symmetrically placed it right on the border between the carousel circle and the rest if the world. The darkness half of the cat stood on the side of a toxic wasteland, and the lightness side of the cat stood on the gleaming side of the carousel. In that mere second everything felt complete as Tao blinked his eyes. He was back in the tent at broad daylight where the same clown was handing him a balloon, but this time Tao refused it and ran outside where his mother was calling him. The outside world was no longer a wasteland. However, he did notice an old carousel that seemed badly damaged and concealed with police tape at the corner of the festival grounds.

He felt like a gerbil, running around and around on his wheel. Out of everywhere he could've been during this storm, he was stuck sleeping over at his friends' house . To top it all off, they had been playing hide and seek for the last hour or so.There was no point in playing this silly game, and the hiding was driving him to madness. Finally, the door at the top of the stairs flew open.
ReplyDelete"Charlie? I know you're hiding in here somewhere~," the person bubbled as he slid down the banister. It was Allen . How could he have known about the hiding spot, and come up with such an awful nickname?
"My name is Charles, and I suggest that you call me that"
"Charles is such a snotty name. Besides, I already found you, so you're it now!"
"Alright, fine. I'll be 'it', but you need to help me find Maisie", Charles retorted. Allen only grinned and tugged the other boy along.
---------—----——---—-----—---------
The duo went back to the garage where Allen said Maisie would be, and sure enough, she was there. She was sitting on top of her sleeping bag, reading a book.
"It's been sooo long, guys! I've been hiding for decades!", she groaned.
"Hey, it's not my fault! You guys are good at hiding", Allen replied.
"I've been in the same spot for 40 minutes and you've walked pass the open garage door twice", Maisie argued.
"Well, maybe I just didn't see you there because you're good at hiding! Isn't that right, Charlie?"
Charles rolled his eyes, and couldn't help but feel annoyed.
"My name is CHARLES, and you shou-"
"Nope, you're name is Charlie," Allen smiled.
At this point, Charles was getting sick of him. Charles glared angrily at the smirking figure. He wanted to start yelling, but decided against it. Instead, he moved himself and his sleeping bag to the other end of the garage.
"You two are full of nonsense", Maisie stated half-heartedly.
Charles pondered about how they had known each other for so many years. It was funny how they quarreled constantly, but he knew deep down inside that they would always be his best friends.

He felt like a gerbil, running around and around on his wheel. Aiden eventually stopped running around the block and went back to his garage. He then called up a few friends to come over; John, Elizabeth, Katie, and Alan. Once they were all there, they decided to go out to the new carnival opened up in town. On the way there, they found something strange. They saw a man running away from what seemed to be a cat wearing a weird collar with a bell on it. Why would the man run away from an adorable, innocent little cat?
ReplyDeleteAt last, we arrived at the carnival. Rides and games everywhere you looked! We decided to go onto the big Ferris wheel first. "Tickets please," said the ride attendant. We gave him our tickets and hopped on to cart number 13. Alan didn't look too happy. " hey man what's wrong?" John asked. "Well you see...13 is bad luck and just...I don't know never mind..." Alan replied. We all gave him a nervous glance and then returned to looking outside as the wheel began to move and we saw the great view from above. It was beautiful as night started to approach and you could see many different constellations like the big supper! All of the sudden the horror began...
"Ahhhhhhhh!!!" Screamed Elizabeth. We all turned our attention to her. "What's wrong did something scare you are you alright?" John asked. All she could manage to do was point at the cat- the same one we saw earlier. Aiden didn't know what to do, so all he managed was to scoot over a bit until he was squished up against the side with John and Alan. The reason he was scared was because the cat began to change, the bell on his collar began to change him into a different form. "How is this possible?" Aiden asked? The cat was now a man with green hair and sharp teeth and weirdly designed clothes with multicolored stripes. "Why, haven't you heard of the magnificent thing called exorcism?" Asked the man. "No way...you're an exorcist?" Asked Elizabeth. He nodded. Katie on the other hand, seemed to be horrified. She opened the cart door..."No Katie!!!!!" John yelled and dived down to the ground after her. What a shame..."said the man. All he did was touch the cart and then vanish to who knows where. Aiden, Elizabeth, and John were scared for their lives when suddenly the cart began to shake and start to fall apart and they all fell down. On the way down, the only last words were a few"I love you thank you for being an amazing friend" and Alan saying "I told you 13 was bad luck..." they sadly DoD not survive the fall, and the exorcist is still out there...

He felt like a gerbil, running around and around on his wheel. A vertical carousel of motion controlled by only himself. He looked to his right and with a limited field of vision saw cords and generators. Hundreds of them with cords leading to each and every wheel controlled by yet another human gerbil.
ReplyDelete"Once a runner and now a generator," he thought. This passion led to a place unexpected. He had signed a contract but at what cost? An insensitive action. While he was paid thousands of dollars for this job, every volt of electricity he created was another painstaking minute of running. Minutes turned to hours, hours turned to days, days turned to months and so on...
He was hooked to a machine, feeding life through its clear narrow tube. The tube hooked up to a pump with a monitor, showing his vital signs. A steady heartbeat of 156 beats per minute.
He gained a thought. The heart rate picked up from the already fast pace. He ran. He ran as fast as he could. More volts of electricity were produced but the more important part was the speed. Forward force put pressure on the hinges, building up heat on the metal contact. Day after day went by, and shavings of metal built up on the ground until finally there was a creaking noise. The unmistakable sound of metal bending. The sound struck interest through the air that was normally filled with the beeps of monitors and the silent scrape of the metal wheels. For years he had put up with this nonsense and he was done with it. The red hot hinges gave way and the wheel fell to the ground. The wheel found grip and started to roll, a vertical carousel of motion controlled only by himself. The cords broke and he was disconnected.
