For this weekend's Creative Writing Workshop, we'll be trying a bit of surrealism...
Follow the directions carefully to create a two paragraph (minimum) short story.
1.) On a small sheet of paper, create two lists of words. In the first list, write down 8 action verbs ending in -ing. For the second list, write down 8 plural nouns.
For example:
1. scurrying 1. gardens
2. wobbling 2. centaurs
3. glancing 3. beans
etc.
2.) Now, match up the words in this order: Verb 1 to Noun 7, Verb 2 to Noun 4, Verb 3 to Noun 2, Verb 4 to Noun 8, Verb 5 to Noun 1, Verb 6 to Noun 3, Verb 7 to Noun 5, Verb 8 to Noun 6.
Write down the pairs of words you've created. For example, "scurrying centaurs" or "glancing gardens."
3.) Now, choose AT LEAST three of these pairs and include them in your story. Start your story with The alarm went off, and...
CREATE!

EXAMPLE
ReplyDelete1. scurrying 1. gardens
2. wobbling 2. centaurs
3. glancing 3. beans
4. twirling 4. caterpillars
5. flitting 5. blossoms
6. circling 6. crayons
7. giggling 7. artists
8. floating 8. polka dots
Now, verb 1 to noun 7 would make: scurrying artists.
Verb 2 to noun 4 would make: wobbling caterpillars.
Etc.
Now, I have to put it all into a story:
The alarm went off, and I glanced out the sun-drenched window to see the wobbling caterpillars slowly crawling along the Spring-blossomed branches of the peach tree in my mother's backyard.....
Etc.
The alarm went off, and I woke up. It was in the middle of June and I was excited for my trip to the Magic Candy factory with my friends. We purchased our tickets ad planned the trip a few weeks ago and we were all anticipating the day. I met up with my friends outside and we drove to the Magic Candy factory. On the way, we discussed the magic that could be in the workshop. We finally arrived after a short 10 minute drive that felt like an hour.
ReplyDeleteThe tour started and we saw marvels of sugar history. There were jumping jellybeans that made you jump to the heavans and singing peppermints that made your voice beutifully musical. Later in the tour we saw more inventions like laughing powders that made you laugh for hours and even floating lollipops that would let you fly. The huge factory offered more like glittering gumballs that made the person sparkle for a whole day. We bought an assortment of products and were very happy to try them out. I can't wait for our next visit.
Author's Note: I wanted to try writing from a male's perspective. I apologize if I portray males incorrectly.
ReplyDeletePART ONE
The alarm went off, and my the lids to my eyes flew open. My hand slammed into the snooze button, a reflex that took a lifetime of laziness to develop. The world was a dizzying haze of color; shafts of light streamed into the room through the creamy white blinds swaying from the window. A groan emitted from my slightly parted lips, announcing my weary state.
"Too early, must sleep."
Much to my dismay, I was unable to form full sentences. My mind seemed to be too foggy, clouded with jumbled thoughts. I struggled to lift my eyes, but it seemed that there were rocks on top of my visage. In a half-lidded state, I trudged out of bed, ignoring the screeching protests coming from my legs.
I was already dressed, thanks to the chaotic events that occurred yesterday night, and an irritating siren-like noise resonated through my head. My temple throbbed, and my left eye sported a large bruise. In spite of my pain, a smile managed to climb onto my injured countenance as I recalled the events of the night.
It began with a simple invitation to a hangout. I had been looking for something to pass the time and it just so happened that the commander of our gang was holding one of his infamous parties. Although my gut was telling me to stay well away, I couldn't help but go check it out. Everything went well until he came. The sniveling rat had burst into the room, causing us to pause what we were doing and stare at him. He seemed to revel in the attention and began challenging the members of our gang, claiming that he was stronger, more clever, and better than all of us combined.
I guess when people say pride is our downfall, they're right. Pride was definitely my downfall last night. I didn't want to appear weak, so I accepted the challenge. Foolish, brash, and completely full of myself, I won the first unofficial match. Two more brawls later and I sported a number of painful injuries. After that, I stumbled home and fell asleep once my head hit my pillow.
Staring at the mirror, I regretted everything I did last night. Going to college that day was out of the picture, especially when my face wasn't picture-perfect. I refused to enter the premises bearing the signs of defeat on my face. With a sigh, I exited my bedroom and, with a slight limp, headed to the dining area.
Fantastic! And congratulations on your first place win in the Academic Olympics Writing Competition!

ReplyDeleteThe alarm went off, and I bolted out of bed, got dressed, and raced down the stairs. I entered the kitchen for breakfast to the sound of the running phones. It seemed like every phone in the world was ringing… and then they all stopped. Even the playing dogs had stopped barking. In fact, everything seemed eerily silent, like a giant mute button had been activated. Then, all was dark.
Soon, my parent’s emergency lights kicked on. I was bathed in red light from every direction. I listened closely for any clue as to what was going on. Finally, after some time I heard the N.Y.P.D. searching eagles. That’s when I knew I was in trouble, one way or another. They only use the eagles for search and rescue missions. They swooped in through the window, grabbed me by my shirt and carried me off to H.Q. When I got to the headquarters they told me what had happened. Apparently, one of the dogs had set of the ultra defense system in my house and it alerted them with an “urgent” message as the system labeled it. I was escorted home after that, and went right back to bed. That was way too much trouble for one day.
The alarm went off, and I groaned at the noise turning it off, I began to slowly get out of my soft bed unwillingly and went to get ready for the day. After that I grabbed my art supplies nearly forgetting my drawing pencils and headed out. Just as I was about to get into my car, I heard the sound of screeching tires, whipping my head around to look but it was too late. I felt an impact and then there was silents. I couldn't move or see or even breath, it was as if someone had placed rocks all over me and covered my eyes.
ReplyDelete*BEEP* *BEEP* *BEEP* My eyes slowly opened to the sight of bright white causing me to shut them. Opening them with better luck I found myself in a hospital room. I tried to get up but I froze in panic, I couldn't move them. Shock took over my body how, how did this happen, why couldn't my legs move when I remembered. slowly laying back I tried to calm my self down as I tried to process what had happened as a pair of dancing birds landed on my window.
The alarm went off, and continued to sound in my awakening ears. Thankfully, it's not the buzzing alarm, but the one that has different pleasing sounds. I jump out of bed, but before I take another step, I remember. Huh. It's the first day of Spring break. Why am I up at 7 in the morning? Perhaps I didn't turn off my alarm. I sit back down on the edge of my bed, thinking of going back to bed. Well, I'm not the person who wants to sleep in every chance I get.
ReplyDeleteThe yellow sun reflects from the neighboring houses. Its blinding rays leaks into my room. I turn on my bed to look out the window. The big sloping hills bathe in the sunlight below the clear blue sky. Against the rich green canvas, dancing blossoms welcome my eyes. They invite me to the arrival of Spring. There is nothing better than to sit and look at such a beautiful view. The early birds begin to chirp their way out of sleep and to a cloudless new day. This is the beauty of Spring, so respect nature, as well as what it brings.
The alarm went off, and the three friends were in no rush to get out of the triple bunk bed. Isaac was the first to get up, slapping the snooze button with a limp hand. He grabbed an empty mug, soon to be filled with a steaming hot cup of chocolate coffee. He looked up to his other two companions, dozing peacefully. Well... except for Niket, who seemed to be forcefully interrogating his pillow. Isaac walked out of the room that housed the bunk bed into the large, high ceilinged hallway of the lab, that was brightly lit with multi-colored industrial lamps. So tired, he was already sipping chocolate coffee out of his empty mug. He walked into the break room with a mug that was gravitating toward the drink machine. Isaac had only taken one sip of his coffee, when the red lights of the blaring alarms went off. He ran out of the break room and into the long hallway that seemed a mile long. He vaguely remembered a previous thought of remodeling the labs to make the more important rooms closer together. By the time Isaac was half way down the hall, Apolo and Niket had already gotten out of the bedroom. "NIKET!! What did you DO!?!" Isaac yelled. A look of annoyance was plastered to Nikets face. "Why do you always blame me!?!?" Now it was Apolo's turn to chime in, " It's because you are usually the one to cause this kind of thing." The alarms got louder, and the lights got brighter. "WHATS HAPPENING!?!" Niket screamed. Apolo ran to a monitor station mounted to the side of the walls. "Everything is going nuts!!!" Apolo yelled as the floor started shaking. "There's a massive energy wave being sent out through the entire lab!!"
ReplyDeleteAs if the alarms weren't bad enough, the exploding hallways didn't help. The floor was ripped open and the walls seemed to twist in on itself. A huge crevice was erected in the floor . Following under that was five feet of dirt, rock, and iron girders. It opened up to a huge cavern who's surface was covered in every manner of wires and cables. And in the exact middle was a huge black and pink glowing stone. "This is the power source from the mines!?" I said to Apolo hopelessly. " Corruption Crystal?!?" A loud bang echoed in the cavern and objects from all over the lab were being drawn to the corruption crystal. It was like a black hole!! Corruption crystal is very rare and is only found in moderate class planets. It can remain dormant for thousands or even millions of years.however, we weren't so lucky with this one. We all hung on to the rim of the now gaping hole that was the floor and wall. A few walls flew into the crystal, as well as a whole squadron of experimental "smashing robots". Dangling on the edge of the crevice in the floor Isaac remembered the one thing that shorted out corruption crystal; caffeine. With a heavy heart, Isaac took one last sip of his marvelous chocolate coffee, and threw the rest into the abyss of the corruption crystal. It increasingly expanded, and Apolo and Niket pulled Isaac to the partially intact ground. "GET DOWN!!" Niket yelled. Though his eyelids were closed, Isaac could still see the blinding light of the blast. The heat resonated across his face. In a few minutes, everything was darker and cooler, so he opened his eyes. He saw what was left of the smoking hot ground. Debris was scattered across the hallway and around the gaping pit that used to be the power control center. The lab seemed even brighter than normal, so I looked up. A massive puncture was ripped through the ceiling of the underground lab. A hole that went so far up that daylight was able to be seen, and dripping pipes and parts of collapsed rooms poked out into the hole. Everything smelled of burning stone. Isaac couldn't help but break a smile "Well... I was thinking about remodeling the lab! "

The alarm went off, and I jumped out of bed. I felt my entire body shaking with pure excitement. I quickly got ready to go on the field trip to the Inhuman Zoo. When I got there, despite my excitement and quick to get ready scheme, I was one of the last there. It turned out that everyone was as exited as me. We got on the bus and headed to the Inhuman Zoo. We were yelling and screaming in excitement. Even the SINGING STREETS got tried of us and they sing, literally 24-7. We even ran into some SURROUNDING TORNADOES which someone left there. The trip however, got horrible. We saw SINKING DONKEYS that were sinking into quicksand. They were even people BUYING TREES. The worst part of this was the fact that the trees were sold using the black market and were actually both the tallest redwood and the thickest sequoia. Even despite this monstrosity, the trip was the best part unfortunately. When we got there, I wish we had never heard of it. It turned out that instead of awesome griffins and dragons and other mystical and mythical creatures of pure awesomeness, there were extremely messed up versions of regular animals.
ReplyDeleteThen we started feeling sick and after we finally started to feel good, the tour began. I do not even want to think about it but there was some pretty rated R animals. There was one "TWISTING OX" which was an ox that, genetically modified, was basically an organism made of rubber. Then the tour instructor made us touch him which was worst of all. Even when we touched it, the entire body molded around our body and encompassed and engulfed our hand so it almost became a part of him. While that was pretty weird, the worst part was that he, out of everything, ate DOZING DAISES. I was sooooooooooooooooooooooo sad and the entire class started crying. They look very majestically in their dozing state but the evil zoo feed them to freaks of nature that shouldn't even exist. I was pretty bummed out after that but the worst was yet to come, and I am not talking about the SMILING TOWELS, and yes there were smiling towels, but instead the DYING BANANAS. At that time, we were hungry and the only food were dying bananas one look at those, and I gave in.
By then, even the teacher got sick and she used to be a surgeon before she became to old. All the kids by then were complaining. Then the teacher remembered something. She in her most caring Morgan Freeman impression said, "Sorry I gave away the wrong permission slip. HE he. Sorry." Lets just say that she wasn't able to write anymore slips after that.
(P.S. That is because she died and yes the children killed her and yes I was partly responsible but YOU WILL NEVER TAKE ME ALIVE.) _Jamal N._

The alarm went off, and the cages unlocked. Crystal was losing it! This was her first day on the job and all of the sudden, she fell and her wet nails hit the big red button. She thought to herself, great now they're ruined! (She had been thinking about her nails.) Then she saw that the animals were escaping. She had to hurry!
ReplyDeleteShe had to doge the TRIPPING BUMPS and the FLIING POST-ITS. They were everywhere!! She rushed and caught all of the dogs, horses, etc. She even fond most of the DIEING BUTTERFLIES. She did it. She had caught all of those silly animals. :)
(Sorry this week I had a bit of writer's block)
The alarm went off and the scurrying men went running. This was the first day the prison had had been active. The first day men and women had already been escaping. All of the prison guards were in their blasting offices, when the alarm had gone off. They knew what had been happening, but didn't know how to react, they would never expect this on the first day.
ReplyDeleteSoon all of the deadly criminals have all funneled out of the empty prison, the city had been at risk. Soon all patrols had been out searching for the prisoner all around. Every person had always been found except a couple. It had been like a game of memory, it gets harder the more their are.soon everyone had been found. Worst first day at work ever.
These are fantastic! You guys have really put great effort into your creative pieces!
ReplyDeleteThe alarm went off, and I jumped out of bed. I was so excited to start my first day of learning ballet. I have always dreamed to become a professional ballet dancer when I grow up, except, I didn't know the first thing about ballet. I didn't know which shoes to wear, or what the puffy skirt was called. But, I was still determined to try this new thing, and try to master it.
ReplyDeleteBefore we left, my mom gave me a pair of pointe shoes and the puffy skirt she called a tutu. When we reached the studio, there were a lot of girls bending forward and holding onto bars. The teacher asked me to show her what I knew about ballet, so I tried doing a jump that I saw professionals do on TV. I felt like a TWIRLING MONKEY. I felt so powerful showing the teacher what I could do, until I fell to the floor. I opened my eyes, and saw BLINKING DOTS and DANCING STARS everywhere. I woke up a little later, and I realized that I had to practice a lot in order to fulfill my dream.

ReplyDeleteThe alarm went off, and I forced myself up and peeled the fluffy bed covers off of me. Today was Monday, the day I have been dreading since Friday. I dragged myself around the house as I got ready for school. When I got to school, the first bell rang, and I headed to gym. The rest of the day seemed to last for an eternity. My favorite part of the day finally came, after 4th period, lunch. ~Rushing students~ filled the hallways, trying to get to the cafeteria. Lunch seemed to last about 2 minutes, then I had to get to my 5th period class, trying to get past the ~talking pupils~.
ReplyDeleteAfter 30 years, the last bell of the day rang. I went outside the gates, seeing my mom’s car parked right in the front. I hopped into my mom’s car and off we went. When I got home, I immediately finished my homework, then went to ~eating pizzas~. After dinner, I read my book while eating a bowl of ice cream. After about 20 minutes, I went to the living room and ate a small snack while watching a show on the TV. I walked into the kitchen to see two ~giggling boys~, knowing my brothers were up past their bed time. Soon after, I fell asleep, knowing I would have to get up at 6:00 A.M. tomorrow.

The alarm woke me up, however the alarm itself needn’t no introduction, for I was already up and running. The rain woke me up, essentially. It’s perpetual movement is almost like the birds singing in the morning.. however I never really do wake up to that. There’s a certain excitement to rain. There is a reason to wake up to it.. the ambience of it all.. it’s very calming, I must say. The storming raindrops outside danced their lovely ways, drifting in the wind like a ship with all her sails unleashed in fair wind.
ReplyDeleteWithout further adieu I sat up from the warm comfort of my chair to stop the alarm clock’s tormenting screams. Patting it’s head, I told it to shush and hear the soft Jazz playing in the background. The alarm clock understood every word, yet mischievously it would scream the next morning. I never thought about the aforementioned because I was so in love with the waltzing measures. The love of it all, so beautiful, so romantic. I hugged myself amidst the terror of afternoon rain, seen in full view of the windows. Oh, how I loved the mood rain sets.
As alive I felt, the slow movements of the sheets of water from the sky was quite calming. I would, for the second time (please pity me), get up from the warmth of my chair for the greatest part of an adult’s morning- pouring coffee cups. Some people hate the bitter taste, but as for myself I can’t resist it. A good cup of Joe always invigorated me.
Beside my chair that was pointed towards my rather large fenestration, the radio beckoned me, playing what the disc jockey said was “Vivo Sonhando.” I agreed with a smile, and hurriedly I carried my mug to the chair to watch the afternoon rain.

The alarm went off, and I jumped out of bed. Today was try-outs for the Solano Mustangs. I had spent many hours *juggling* and dribbling threw *cones*. This was no joke to me, I wanted to be more than the average good player, this year I wanted to be the best on our team. When I arrived at the field I saw a big cluster of *laughing coaches*. A group of some girls came *skipping* and stopped to clean the spots of dirt on their *cleats*. I wasn't worried about my cleats I was worried about my performance.
ReplyDeleteWhen it was about 9:30 a.m. the coaches called us in to a big group. This year I would be in u14 I was a little nervous. There was about fifty girls at the try-outs, the coaches separated us into 5 groups. I happened to end up in the same group as the girls who were making there cleats spotless. The drills they ran us through were easy for me and I was feeling more confident because a lot of the other girls struggled. When the time that it came around for one on ones a lot of the girls were red in the face and panting, I was breathing fine and I felt great. The first girl I played I juked with a step-over. Next I had to play defense, I slowed down the girl and when she least expected it took the ball and scored. One of the girls who was cleaning her cleats earlier was my opponent, she turned to her friends and said " This will be easy" and laughed. I didn't say anything back to her, but I was angry so I turned my anger into fuel. I dribbled out into the middle of the small field, the girl immediately went for the ball so I did a spin move around her. Instead of just running to the goal to score I waited for her to get back into position. I juked her with a simple roll and step-over, but I still didn't run to the goal to score. She came at me slow this time she was trying to slow me down, so I used my special move I had been working on, this time I did score. I whispered " I guess it wasn't easy after all." All of the coaches clapped and told me nice foot work. Later that night my parents got a call from each of the coaches asking me to be on their team.
The alarm went off in our building. I suddenly woke up to hear friends, family screaming. I threw the bed covers off of me and got dressed. I went outside outside to see running people everywhere. I went outside and was looking for my friend, Bryan when he appeared behind me. I asked him what was going on and he told me there were gunmen spotted outside. All of a sudden there were a number of deafening explosions. We ducked down behind a table. We made two endangering plans that might kill us both using the other if the first didn't work. We ran to the murdering criminals with weapons and started to fight them.
ReplyDeleteWe killed all of them but Bryan got shot in the stomach. We took him to the hospital where scurrying nurses and doctors were rushing to help him. He got fixed up and he was ok. We went back home and we played video games.
The alarm went off, and I knew I had the best dream off my life. It started off with me gaining lots of super powers, like super strength and super jump also super speed. I just started walking down the street until a line of busses came at me. The next thing I know is that I'm throwing (1) busses (1). At that moment I became frightened so I ran away on a train track, with speed of course because of the powers.
ReplyDeleteI then found a spot I could lay down and relax, then I heard a train. It was too late for me to run away so I started jumping (2) the train (2). By the time I hit the ground I was in a complete different dream. I had the job of carrying (3) clocks (3). I was so confused, then I snapped awake carrying on with the rest of my day.
The alarm went off, and woke Jack up. The time showed that it was 12:00. He was late for work and he dressed quickly. He ran downstairs and poured a bowl of cereal. He ate quickly and ran out the door. There were many running children trying to catch the bus. He got on the bus and sat with his best friend Nick. They talked a lot about video games. They both really liked video games and were good at it.
ReplyDeleteJack and Nick looked outside and saw sleeping deer. They eventually got to school and they ran to school. They hated school and wanted to just stay home and play video games. When they were outside playing, it started to rain. The pouring raindrops hit the kids heads as they ran back to their classrooms.
The alarm went off, and Madison glared at the alarm clock, which rudely woken her up from her peaceful slumber. While looking at the clock she realized that it was only 4:45! Who would change her alarm to something so early? Also, if someone were to change it why couldn't they of at least giver her fifteen more minute of sleep and round the alarm to the closest hour? Grumpily, Madison got out of bed and headed to the kitchen, sense it was obvious she wouldn't be able to go back to sleep after she's woken up.
ReplyDeleteIn the kitchen she noticed there were mouse traps scattered around the floor. Those little rodents were back again! Like any other lazy and annoyed teenager, Madison started *kicking* the *cheeses* (which were on the various mouse traps... mice traps?). She continued kicking the cheeses away from her, creating a path for her to walk through so, she could get to the back door of the house that lead to the backyard. The backyard is Madison's favorite place because there was a secret gate that lead to a magical forest, well maybe not magic, but it wasn't normal either.
Once she opened the gate she was greeted by the *dancing grass* and *burping trees* that "lived" here in the secret garden. Maybe it really is a magical garden, she thought. She isn't crazy either because she knew she just saw *racing rocks* and *farting turtles* along with a lot of other crazy things happening right before her eyes. Why hasn't she noticed these creatures and their weird habits before?

(This is me implementing myself into the tv series Lost) Disclaimer: I do not own Lost or any part of the tv series on ABC television.
ReplyDeleteThe alarm went off and I slowly opened my eyes. Echoing beeps fill the air throughout the Dharma facility. I push myself up, off of the couch and walk into the room that houses the computer. Machines whir around me in an unsettling way, storing information. I walk over to the computer and punch in the numbers. Four, eight, fifteen, sixteen, twenty three, forty two. With a space between each, I scan my eyes over the combination. My finger hovers and then presses down on the tiring execute button. A counter on the curved wall opposite of me whirs and numbers flip. The whirring stops and the number 108 shows in the minute column. 108 minutes until I have to press execute again with the numbers entered. I walk over to the couch and fall back asleep.
I awake to a loud alarm sound, echoing throughout the shaking chamber. I was push myself up once again and rush over to the computer room. With my hands shaking, I type in the numbers: four, eight, fifteen, sixteen, twenty three, forty two. I look up. Seven seconds left; six, five... Without faltering, I look back down and press execute. Nothing happens. No numbers whirring, no reset in time; nothing. I press execute once again and still no response. Panic fills me. I look back up to see the last digit... One. The numbers flip and turn black. Red hieroglyphs form on the black cards and a grinding sound fills the air. The equipment in the room starts to shift. Slowly towards the wall near the door. I hear metal, clattering in the kitchen. I look out and see forks and knives; pans and pots sliding across the floor. A flying wheelchair whips by me and smashes into the wall followed by a chair. The lights flicker and go out as I duck to the ground. Then, a sharp pain surges through my head. A loudspeaker had hit the back of my head. The darkness...
The alarm went off and I woke up to see gazing unicorns all grouped together around my bed. They looked as if they wanted to eat me alive. If this was a dream, then it was a pretty brutal one. If I hadn't been gutted by a billion unicorn horns at that moment, I'd be the luckiest person to escape a dream filled with sparkly pink horses. Pain flourished all throughout my ribs and stomach. They were gutting me with their sharp horns and I wanted out from this dream right this second. Now I was lucky that I had woken up from that terrible nightmare of horses. However, I found myself in another situation after waking up the second time. My bedroom was below sea level. Everything around me felt like a watercolor painting done by a 5 year old since there were meditating narwhals in front of me. At least, that's what they appeared to be. It was a whole army in fact, of whales with unicorn horns (if i hadn't had enough of those already) who were meditating in a calm and peaceful session. The calmness eased away the pain from the unicorns gutting me and I drifted off into a sleep again
ReplyDeleteI woke up wondering if the series of magical creature dreams were gone. Crossing my fingers I hoped it was true, but no it wasn't. Beside me on the coffee table to my right lay a couple of unread letters which weren't there before. As if by an invisible force, the letters started purring like a cat. Purring letters wasn't something I would've ever predicted to occur in my dreams. The purring reminded me of my kitty cat Delusional that I forgot to feed again last night. The letters stopped purring just I had jolted myself awake for the very last time. Delusional was on my tummy purring loudly. I realized that this was finally the end of my absurd dreams, and I petted Delusional who could never be more fluffy or fat. I forget to feed him many times yet he stays chubby. Amazing how that works.

ReplyDeleteThe alarm went off and Alex got up from his bed. He got his bag and left for work again. He drove off to work and when he arrived, everything was unaturally calm. He walked towards his office, waiting to hear the sound of his co-worker smashing keyboards in rage, but the sound never came. He wandered the office some more, trying to find some reason to why the office was so quiet.
As he looked more, he noticed that none of his co-workers were in their offices. He decided to check the break room. He heard lots of murmuring behind the door and when he opened the door, he saw all of his co-workers grabbing anything they could see. "What's going on??" Alex asked. "ALEX!" They all yelled. "GET IN, GET IN! BEFORE THEY GET YOU!" Duncan, his other co-worker yelled. Duncan pulled Alex through the door and slammed it shut. "BARRICADE IT!!!" He screamed. They all made a pile of sofas, coffee tables, and chairs against the door to stop whatever it was from coming in. "What's going on guy-"Alex was saying before he was interrupted by a loud bang. They all screamed. There was another loud bang and the pile started to fall apart. "ARM YOURSELVES!" Ross yelled. Everyone grabbed forks and spoons from the counter in the back and one even pulled out an empty beer bottle. Some of them positioned themselves at the door and some of them got the fire escape ready, in case things got too intense. Alex grabbed a fork and carefully approached the door, not knowing what would happen, then BANG. The pile collapsed like falling boxes and the door bust open.
On the other side of the door were two futuristic-looking people, one male one female. "Where is our payment" the female asked. The group pushed Duncan forward. He gave everyone an angry look then turned and said," uhh... We kinda don't have it ready yet." While they talked, Alex's mind was racing. "What's happening? Why didn't I know about this." Alex thought. "WHAT'S GOING ON?!?" Everyone looked at him. "I may have said that one out loud" Alex thought. "These people owe us a flux capacitor." The male said. "It was due a month ago, but was never paid up." "Why don't you give us more time?" Alex said. "Give us a couple more weeks and we'll have it ready for you." He had no idea what he was arguing for and why, but he did it anyway. The man and woman whispered among each other, deciding if they shoud give them more time to build whatever the heck it was. "Very well." The woman spoke. "You have 2 weeks. Of we do not reccive out capacitor in the give time, we shall take another one of you. Do not disappoint." The man and woman teleported away. They all dropped their forks. They were all rejoicing because Alex saved them from losing another worker. "THANK YOU!" Duncan screamed. We would've lost another if you hadn't done that." He hugged Alex and went to rejoice with the others. "Wait" Alex said. "is that why Kim hasn't shown up in weeks?" They all went silent. "No,no,no" Ross said"shes just on-- her break." They all nodded. "Okayyyy." Alex replied. "So I'm just gonna go... And get work done." He said as he slowly inched away towards his office. Then he sat at his desk and found himself thinking of his life choices.
The alarm went off, and I pressed the power button to disarm it. Nothing happened. I pressed again, harder, but the outcome was the same. After letting the clock wail for a few more moments, I unplugged it from the wall forcefully. It was being a particularly stupid clock today, so I flung it across the room for good measure.
ReplyDeleteI was out of the door an hour later, with my bag slung over one shoulder. It was Saturday. What did people do on Saturdays? I sifted through various ideas. I remembered what someone had mentioned to me yesterday. They had gone to the beach! In this morning's newspaper, lots of people were going to see a local basketball game today, too. A new bakery had opened up in town, and as I passed it, I could see dozens of people lining up. The line was so long that it continued outside of the store and down the sidewalk. I guess that was what people did on Saturdays.
I stopped, analyzing each suggestion momentarily, and decided that I the beach was a nice place to go in this weather. It was convenient, too, because I lived in a coastal town. The beach was only a 15 minute walk away. On a rocky cliff sat a lighthouse. It was tall, with bricks coated in peeling white paint. Sometimes I can't help myself from dreaming of living in one of those buildings. They're so tall, and the view from the top would be outstanding.
I made my way down to the sand and sat myself on the ground with an audible thump. The waves crashed against the craggy shore rhythmically. I gazed out on to the horizon and imagined that the boats in the distance were pirate ships. When I was younger, I would pretend that I owned a boat and that I sailed the seas alone. Not like a pirate, of course. Just sailing, and discovering oceans, and islands and such. I guessed that would be nice. I scooped up a handful of the silky sand and let it course through my fingers. It isn't often that I stumble upon a day as beautiful as today. What a nice morning.

The alarm went off, and I came running down the stairs. I was so excited for today, for it was finally the weekend which I had been waiting for so I could relax and walk around town. As I left the house, I saw a flyer on a lamppost not far from where I was. I took a closer look at the bigger stack of the flyers next to the lamppost, but a gust of wind came by an all you could see was a bunch of scurrying papers flying in the sky.
ReplyDeleteI chose not to even bother with the flyer and to walk down to the swing instead. I felt like I was being looked at, so every now and then I'd look around. I turned around to find a mirror shop. No wonder I thought I was being looked at, although it turned out to only be a whole store full of glancing mirrors holding people's reflections. I left the store and went back towards the trail towards the swing.
I finally arrived at the swing! I went back and forth on it for a while, but then I started to feel lonely. Nobody wanted to come with me so I was here all alone with no one to talk to. I sighed and then decided to take the path back home. I saw a patch of beautiful flowers. The gust of wind came back, and it changed all the flowers in the patch from being normal to twirling flowers in the patch. It was a beautiful sight, so I stayed and watched for a bit, feeling quite happy and excited-- even if I did have no company with me. Once the wind died down, I made my way back to my house. I had a really great day and I went to sleep thinking about those flowers dancing in the wind.

The alarm went off, and I woke up. It wasn't just any regular morning though. Today was the yearly triathlon in Los Angeles California. There would be running, swimming and biking men and women. This was also the first year that there would be singing performances at the end of the triathlon so that wan another thing I was looking forward to. My mom rushed all of us out of the house because she wanted a good spot at the awesome event. When we got there, there was ALOT of talking women, eating men, and screaming children.
ReplyDeleteHe was in the lead! No wait now she's in the lead, oh but wait contestant #79 is pulling ahead!! Most of the contestants I'm the back of the race were walking to the end now. "Wow, thanks for taking us mom and dad this was awesome!" Now it was about time for the celebration, and the singing part of the triathlon. I don't really no why, but this was my favorite part of the triathlon this year.
These were extremely fun to read! I am so impressed with your creativity! I hope you guys never lose your imaginations!
ReplyDeleteThe alarm went off, and Jacoby got out of bed. He just had the weirdest dream. He was shocked by his electric blanket, and he had become invisible. He also gained the super power of teleporting. It was amazing, because he did not have to go to school and he could do whatever he wanted to.He had gone on many adventures
ReplyDeletein the wild dream.
In the dream, Jacoby spent his time doing very fun things. First, he teleported to diagon alley, a wizard town in England. He wanted to see if he could beat up a wizard, so he started looking for the perfect victim. He was sure that he could succeed in jumping some wizards. he saw a group of three wizards, wearing long black robes and hoods. He walked up and when one of them turned around, he knew he was toast. he had found Lord Voldemort, the most evil, and ruthless wizard of all time. He then gave up the plan and teleported to the first place he could think of home.
When he got home, he looked around and noticed a difference. He was not in his house, he was in a forest! He looked all around for any sign of humanity, but instead found tiny houses made of mushrooms. He then saw the small blue creatures in the huts. Smurfs! he was not thinking of home when he teleported, he was thinking of the smurfs from the comic book he saw of them in a store in Diagon alley. He then spent a few minutes studying smurfs and found them very interesting. Then when he was ready he teleported.
When he woke up from the dream, he went to the bookshelf and started reading dr. seuss. He was ready to start his day. Jacoby was dressed and had eaten breakfast, but he knew he was forgetting something. He remembered that he did not brush his teeth or hair. He ran to the bathroom and looked in the mirror. And nothing was there.

The alarm went off and Chrystyne watched from the counter as her mom and three aunts all turned at once to the large oven thaat was in the middle of the kitchen's back wall, reminding Chrystyne of racing children as they scrambled for the oven, each of them hoping they would make to the oven first and have the honor of pulling the tray of cookies out of the oven. Her aunt Crystal made it there first, skidding to a hault before the oven, pulling on her oven mitts, opening the oven door and releasing a thick cloud of dark smoke. She pulled out the tray of shortbread ashes and placed them on the counter as her sisters opened windows and used hand towels to direct the suffocating smoke out of them, all while Chrystyne stood and walked past the coughing bakers, out into the front yard of her new house. She felt both annoyed and amused. But above all, she felt forgotten and lonely.
ReplyDeleteIt had been like this for a week and a half, ever since her mom and aunts had moved into this house in the middle of nowhere. All that could be seen for miles around the house was the countryside, and a small stable where Chrystyne's one and only friend was kept. She walked toward it now, the prospect of visiting Chesnut, her beautiful brown horse, brightening her mood cconsiderably. Her mom had told her that it would get better, that they had just moved there and it would take some getting used to, but Chrystyne could tell that this "new arrangement", as her mom called it, would never feel normal to her. She would tell this to her mom yet again, but she knew it wouldn't help. This was her dream. Her mom and aunts all have a passion for baking, and now they're opening their own bakery. They planned on constructing a small building in the empty space to the left of their house, which would serve as the actual bakery, as soon as they finished perfecting old recipies and creating new ones. Chrystyne walked into the stable, all of her problems seeming to dissolve as she looked into Chesnut's dark, intelligent eyes. In a few moments, all that could be heard was pounding horse hooves as Chrystyne tried to escape from her currently chaotic life, at least for a little bit.
